The CIF Sac-Joaquin Section announced its A. Dale Lacky Scholar-Athlete Award winners for outstanding athletic performance, community service and academic success during their four years of high school this morning at a breakfast in Lodi. The award, named after former Section and State CIF President, A. Dale Lacky, recognizes the top male and female student-athletes within the Section. Each league is able to send two winners, one male and one female, to be honored. Jayden Vargas from Orestimba and Stella Amstutz from Mariposa were selected to represent the Southern League. Yolo students excelled at County competition for National History Day. Three of the four teams won medals and the other was an honorable mention.
Gold: Cynthia Hernandez and Carlos Gutierrez (not pictured) with a topic of Integration of Sports: Fritz Pollard. They built a website.
Gold: Connor Orr with a topic of Debate over The Bill of Rights. He built a website.
Silver: Kelly Zapien, Areli Neria and Cierra Kirk with a topic of Women’s Rights: The Seneca Falls Convention. They made a documentary.
Honorable Mention: 6th grader, Maya Hey, (not pictured) fearlessly made a documentary. Her documentary was Ship Safety: The RMS Titanic.
