My name is Michelle Smith, and it is with great pleasure that I introduce myself and welcome you to Yolo Middle School. As the principal, I look forward to meeting you and working together for our students. I am honored to have the opportunity to lead a school with such persevering students, an extremely dedicated staff, and a supportive school community. I feel very fortunate to be part of this school and to support the students and families.
I have been dedicated to the field of education for more than twenty years. I have worked with students ranging in age from Kindergarten through 8th grade in a variety of roles. Having worked in education for more than 2 decades, I know that education is my passion. I view education as a life-long process and expect that I will continue to learn much about the uniqueness of Yolo this year and in the years to come. Most importantly, I bring a belief that students are at the center of all school-related decisions. I am excited to unite my experience, my openness to learn, and my child-centered approach to support our students. I know that together we will make it great.
Yolo is a vibrant, dynamic, and engaging middle school whose priorities are student driven. Our focus is Panther “Proud”. Our students and staff work together to be: Problem Solvers, Respectful, Open-minded, Upstanding, and Determined. Our mission is to educate and empower all students to be caring, contributing citizens.
At Yolo we have over 700 students in grades 6, 7, and 8. It is within these walls that students learn Science, Math, English/Language Arts, and Social Studies. In addition, our students are offered a variety of special area courses, including Physical Education, Art, Music, Choir, Band, Technology, Ag, Social Skills, and Health. There are also several extra-curricular activities for our students that include: interscholastic athletics, national history day, band and chorus groups, student council, yearbook as well as an award winning after school program. As you can see, our students at YMS have many opportunities to grow both academically and socially. If you have any concerns or questions please feel free to reach out to me, and I cannot wait to meet you in person.
