On Wednesday, October 7, 2018 at the School Ready Initiative Press Conference Superintendent Fillpot unveiled an 8 Million Word Challenge. This challenge was for our NCLUSD Elementary Students, grades Kindergarten to 3rd, to read 8 million words using the Footsteps2Brilliance App before March 1, 2019. In less than one month the students at Barrington, Bonita, Hunt and Von Renner totaled 8,226,134 words and completed the 8 Million Word Challenge. All elementary students and staff received a special treat before Winter Break for completing the challenge three months early, and will receive site-wide BBQs this Spring! Congratulations to all our students for crushing the 8 Million Word Challenge!
The 8 Million Word Challenge was no match for our students and staff, and on December 10, 2018 at the School Board Meeting Superintendent Fillpot reset the challenge! Now Superintendent Fillpot has challenged our K-3 students to read 16 Million words by March 1, 2019! Barrington, Bonita, Hunt and Von Renner gladly accepted the challenge and are proudly displaying meters to track their "Footsteps to
8 16 Million Words".
From November 7, 2018 to January 11, 2018 students have read 13,865,037 words and counting! Follow along with their progress at each site and here for a weekly district-wide update.
Congratulations again to all who participated in the 8 Million Word Challenge and good luck on the 16 Million Word Challenge!
